Hi,

Tegla is a 1:1 reimplementation of the original Bento.me data format and layout system. I built it so I could import and keep using my Bento site after it was shut down.

Every now and then, you come across a product that was made with so much care and love that you cannot, and do not want to try to improve it. Bento was one of these products, and Tegla is my attempt at preserving it.

All the design, in its entirety, is thanks to the genius of Eike, Sélim and Mugeeb.

Along the way, I did fix many of the original Bento's implementation shortcomings. Better media optimization, much faster media loading, full server-side rendering, CSS-only layout, very fast FCP and very cheap hosting thanks to aggressive optimization and caching.

While I am not planning to accept signups to Tegla for anyone other than me and a handful of friends who wish to use it (DM me on Twitter if you are one such friend for an invite), I made it open source and documented how you can host it yourself here.
